Olutosin Itohan Araromi is a first generation Nigerian-American who appreciates the opportunity’s America holds but still embraces and stays true to her Nigerian heritage. Her father is from Yoruba decent and her mother is from Edo decent, being born from two different ethnic tribes made Olutosin appreciate and celebrate diversity. Olutosin is a 22 year old senior at Montclair State University studying family and child studies with a concentration in family services and a minor in psychology. Her concentration in school and her passion in life are to empower and uplift others, because she believes that true success is measured by how successful you can make others. Furthermore, Olutosin has been a substitute teacher for the past 2 years with the Irvington board of education. She loves working with inner city children because she has a passion to help the less privileged population. Olutosin is also a freelance model who loves the art one can create in front of a camera by modeling. Not only is she a beauty but she values education, she was recognized for her hard work and determination in college by being admitted into the Kappa Omicron Nu and the Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society’s. Being an innovative leader comes easy to her, because at her previous college institute she was elected class Vice President. Olutosin is a part of a Women’s Empowerment group called “The Esther Project” which is a global empowerment movement with a mission of preparing and positioning women for their purpose in life. Olutosin believes that the future of Africa is in our women, empowering and educating them is essential to the growth and development of our beloved continent. Olutosin believes volunteering is something all young people should do thus why she volunteered by being a mentor to young girls with the Girl Scouts of America organization. Olutosin’s personal platform is to educate women on the signs and prevention of breast cancer. This platform is near to her heart because she had a close relative who detected a lump in her breast. If not for prayers and the grace of God we could have lost another woman to this horrendous disease. Cases with breast cancer are increasing dramatically worldwide, that is why Olutosin is making it her duty to educate and bring awareness within the African community. As Miss Nigeria USA Olutosin would like her reign to focus on empowering women, education, as well as raising awareness about her personal platform here in the diaspora and back home in Nigeria. Furthermore in the future Olutosin would like to work within the human services industry helping the less privileged population in the community. Her long term goals are to be a humanitarian, author, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, advocator, role-model and most of all a teacher. Teaching others how to empower themselves so they can empower the next generation and raise more innovative transformational leaders. Remember the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. So dream big, be persistent and always keep God first.
